Lately, when I ask people what they need to work on in our yoga class, I’m hearing lots of requests for shoulders and back. If you’re like me, and a lot of other people out there, you are spending at least 8 hours sitting at a desk, and probably more in your car, or home computer after. And with the constant sitting and rounding over, no wonder you are feeling a little like a hunchback.
So, here’s a quick warm up to stretch your back, neck and shoulders in multiple directions, which will help your posture and get your spine moving. Hold each pose for 5 breath cycles.
Start seated, taking a few moments to connect with some deep inhalations and exhalations before you start moving. Then take both hands behind your back, pull your shoulder blades together and find your inner Wonder Woman, (or Person).
Now, as you inhale and come back to centre, take your right hand over your left and as you exhale, allow your head to lower and your back to press towards the wall behind you.
Inhale to roll up. Repeat all three poses, but this time take the right hand over to the left thigh, before twisting to the left.
Yougista. Be You.
