Top Benefits of Doing Pilates

As a yoga and Pilates teacher, I am a huge advocate for moving your body in the way that feels best for you. While some people prefer to partake in more rigorous exercises such as CrossFit, others enjoy opting for gentler options, like restorative yoga.

Pilates however, is an immensely popular type of exercise that offers a multitude of physical and mental health benefits. Here are two of my favourites “side effects” of practicing Pilates:

It all began with problems in my neck and shoulder. There was no injury, but the tension building up from miscellaneous daily tasks was becoming overwhelming. To ease the pain, I had a couple of massages, but I was looking for a sustainable way to work out the tension, so I started taking yoga at the community centre. It’s heartening to look back and remember that during my first class, I couldn’t hold downward dog for even one breath.
